Community Rummage Sale Exceeds Expectations!

The Hood River Rotary Club’s inaugural Community Rummage Sale has now grossed more than $11,500, exceeding our initial expectations and providing a tremendous boost to the funds available for future Rotary scholarships and community grants.

While fundraising was certainly a primary objective, it was never our only goal. From the very beginning, we envisioned an event that would accomplish four important things:

·       Raise funds for scholarships and community grants.

·       Increase awareness of Rotary and the work we do throughout our community.

·       Provide a meaningful service to our community.

·       Strengthen the camaraderie and fellowship that make our club so special.

·       By every measure, the event was a success.

Over three days, dozens of Rotarians, family members, Interact students, and community volunteers worked side-by-side collecting donations, organizing merchandise, greeting shoppers, staffing checkout stations, and cleaning up after the event. The teamwork, laughter, flexibility, and willingness to jump in wherever needed embodied the Rotary spirit of Service Above Self.

Perhaps the most rewarding outcome was seeing the community’s response. Hundreds of shoppers came through the doors, many learning more about Rotary while they searched for treasures. Equally rewarding was watching usable items find new homes instead of ending up in a landfill, benefiting both local families and the environment.

As with any first-year event, we learned valuable lessons that will help us make next year’s sale even better. We have already begun gathering feedback from volunteers and are excited about the opportunities to grow this fundraiser into an annual community tradition.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to every Rotarian, family member, volunteer, donor, sponsor, and shopper who made this event possible. This success truly belonged to our entire club. Together, we demonstrated what can happen when people come together in service to their community.

Here’s to an outstanding first year—and an even bigger and better Community Rummage Sale in 2027.
